Child Safeguarding

Welcome to the London Child Safeguarding Institute Safeguarding Course

The Safeguarding Practitioner’s Toolkit

As society evolves, so do the lives and needs of our children. The pressures they face—whether from social media, family breakdown, peer relationships, or early exposure to trauma—are profoundly different from those experienced by previous generations.

In this changing landscape, traditional parenting and caregiving approaches often fall short. That’s why we adopt therapeutic parenting as a way of supporting children.

This safeguarding course has been developed with therapeutic principles at its core.

It is: A hands-on, trauma-informed course designed for adults currently working in residential children’s homes, as well as those new to the care sector. This course also serves as a practical resource for parents and foster carers supporting vulnerable children.

This course was developed by a team of experienced Registered Managers, Social Workers, and Responsible Individuals who bring their frontline knowledge, compassion, and leadership directly into the training content. Their combined insight ensures every module is not only legally sound, but emotionally intelligent and grounded in the realities of care work.

This course is designed to support both personal development and professional supervision. Through the Reflect, Review, Rise: Owning Your Growth in Safeguarding Care section

As part of this course, all participants are required to complete the following:

1. Self-Reflection – "My Journey as a Caregiver"

students must complete and submit a two-page guided reflection to your Home Manager. This exercise invites you to explore your motivations for working in care, challenges you’ve faced, what you’ve learned, and where you see your future. It encourages honest insight and helps build emotional resilience and self-awareness.

2. Own Your Growth

This is a practical career-planning task that links directly to staff annual appraisal. Students will identify their current role, strengths, and areas for development, as well as outline goals for the next 1–5 years. This could include ambitions around leadership, further training, or gaining new responsibilities within their workplace.

3. Feedback and Reflection

At the end of the course, students will be invited to give open and honest feedback. This includes reflections on the training content, delivery, and impact. Student insights are vital to the continuous improvement of our safeguarding learning journey.
